Literacy for LIttle Ones is a training series for families and professionals that focuses on early literacy skill development for children who are blind or visually impaired, with a focus on tactile learners. This training series focuses on the importance of motor skills, concept development, and language in developing literacy.

The Active Learning Study Group for 2015-16 will focus on Dr. Nielsen's "The Functional Scheme: Function Skills Assessment." This assessment is used with learners between birth and 48 months to determine their developmental levels and changes in levels. In our March webinar we will review several sections of the assessment and look at video examples of a student to see how these sections were scored. Participants will be asked to complete at these parts of the assessment before the May study group.

Our ECC webinar series continues with a focus on tactile skills, an important part of the Compensatory / Access Skills area. Compensatory skills refer to the use of strategies, techniques, and adapted materials that students with visual impairments need to access the general education and common core curricula. CVI Study Group is meeting place for VI professionals to discuss Cortical Visual Impairment. The study group is facilitated by Sara Kitchen, VI Consultant with the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Outreach Program. Participants will share documents and videos of their own students via google drive. Participants will discuss newly submitted materials and offer suggestions with their peers. Participants will explore suggestions with their student and share how the student has responded. Participants will explore topics and resources of interest related to CVI, as identified by the group.
