From Patricia Obrzut to Everyone: Hi from Patty Obrzut from Penrickton Center for Blind Children From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: Hi Patty! From Patricia Obrzut to Everyone: Just to clarify that is a space blanket with Jack (not aluminum foil). In case anyone plans to use this item with other students. From Hillary Keys to Patricia Obrzut, Host and Panelists: Thank you, Patty. From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: Space blankets are so much more responsive than aluminum foil. Kids love them! From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: And they're super cheap! From Ruth Muse to Everyone: Really enjoyed video- thank you From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: It's such a great one. It's available on activelearningspace.org if you want to play it for someone. From Patricia Obrzut to Host and Panelists: To clarify, active learning is something anyone of any age can participate in. Dr. Nielsen created wonderful ideas for children under 48 months of age, however - it can be used with children functioning above 48 months. From Kaycee Bennett to Everyone: Handouts can be found here: https://tsbvi.live/coffeehour From Kate Hurst to Everyone: Check out these pages on Active Learning Space to learn more about alignment: https://activelearningspace.org/program-planning/developing-an-iep-to-reflect-active-learning/, https://activelearningspace.org/implementation/content-domains/ From Laura Elmer to Everyone: Hillary, will you comment on DBMD students with asynchronous development. Students who may be above and below 48 months in different areas. From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: All skill areas are interrelated, especially during early development. One skill area that is underdeveloped may cause a more developed skill area to plateau. From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: So all skill areas need to be assessed and addressed! From Kate Hurst to Everyone: Learners of any chronological age can benefit from Active Learning. Children continue to learn more readily when they can be actively engaged in hands-on learning. Adults actually generally learn best when they can get their hands on materials and apply what they know to figure out what they don't know. From Kate Hurst to Everyone: Not sure what you mean exactly by asynchronous learning. From Kate Hurst to Everyone: Oh I see, children who may have advanced motor skills or even cognitive skills, often are at much younger social and emotional developmental ages. We need to focus on these areas of development and the approaches suggested in 5 Phases of Active learning to address this development. Otherwise we often see behavioral challenges, lack of generalization of skills. From Kate Hurst to Everyone: Patty's discussion of Dynamic Learning Circle From Kate Hurst to Everyone: https://activelearningspace.org/principles/dynamic-learning-circle/patty-obrzut-discusses-the-dynamic-learning-circle/ From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: I think of imitation as the adult doing the same activity as the child, trying to do it like the child does it. And if the child notices the adult is doing that, magical things can happen. From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: It's a pretty natural way that humans connect with each other. From Kate Hurst to Everyone: Phase 1 Offering https://activelearningspace.org/principles/five-phases-of-educational-treatment/phase-1-offering/ Phase 2 Imitating https://activelearningspace.org/principles/five-phases-of-educational-treatment/phase-2-imitating/ Phase 3 Interacting https://activelearningspace.org/principles/five-phases-of-educational-treatment/phase-3-interacting/ Phase 4 Sharing the Work https://activelearningspace.org/principles/five-phases-of-educational-treatment/phase-4-sharing-the-work/ Phase 5 Experiencing Consequences https://activelearningspace.org/principles/five-phases-of-educational-treatment/phase-5-experiencing-consequences/ From Kaycee Bennett to Everyone: https://www.tsbvi.edu/statewide-resources/services/tech-loan/description From Kate Hurst to Everyone: Link to Tech Loan at tsbvi https://www.tsbvi.edu/statewide-resources/services/tech-loan From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: kitchens@tsbvi.edu From Kaycee Bennett to Everyone: Handouts can be found here: https://tsbvi.live/coffeehour From Patricia Obrzut to Host and Panelists: Penrickton Center for Blind Children located in Taylor, MI will also loan out books and active learning materials. I would like to rewatch it From Kaycee Bennett to Laura Elmer, Host and Panelists: Usually within about a week From Patricia Obrzut to Everyone: Penrickton Center for Blind Children will loan out books and equipment to anyone. From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: That's fantastic! I didn't know that. : ) From Patricia Obrzut to Everyone: The only limit to loaning items is the number that we have available to loan. From Kate Hurst to Everyone: That is wonderful, Hillary. From Laura Elmer to Host and Panelists: Is Active Learning in Texas only available to larger metropolitan areas in Texas? From Kaycee Bennett to Laura Elmer, Host and Panelists: Are you referring to the coaching, the loan program, or what in particular? From Patricia Obrzut to Everyone: That was a nice comment from Christina. From Laura Elmer to Host and Panelists: All of the above? From Kaycee Bennett to Everyone: Handouts can be found here: https://tsbvi.live/coffeehour From Hillary Keys to Patricia Obrzut, Host and Panelists: Laura, the regional TxSSN network member determines the need for training in their region and provides the level of training and coaching needed. Texas is so large that every region might have different needs. From Kate Hurst to Everyone: Laura, NO! Absolutely beneficial and if done appropriately very much in line with approach developed by Jan van Dijk. From Jennifer Otto to Host and Panelists: jotto1@saisd.net interested in active learning cohort for fall for SAISD teachers From Hillary Keys to Patricia Obrzut, Host and Panelists: I would say the other thing to consider is safety. From Patricia Obrzut to Everyone: Penrickton Center for Blind Children is also a good source of information on Active Learning. We can provide on-line consultations. We will also provide conferences and training as needed. It is good to have as many resources on Active Learning as possible. From Karen Grace to Everyone: karen.grace@annaisd.org From Mary Adkisson to Host and Panelists: I'd be interested in joining a case study on active learning if I'm available: Mary.adkisson@asdb.az.gov From Sara Kitchen to Jennifer Otto, Host and Panelists: Hey Jenny Otto, are you in San Antonio now?
