TEACHER: It‘s closer to $2. Okay, good. Now let‘s take this further; let‘s take our estimating a little further and work a little harder here. We've got 161, 161. 61 is between what two tens? 

ALI: 60 and 70 

TEACHER: Okay, we want to round to a ten because tens are easier to work with. So let's take a look at our ones column; we've got a 1. If it's a 4 or lower you round...? 

ALI: down 

TEACHER: down, if it's a 5 or higher, you round... up. Okay, so we've got a1 in that ones column. 161, would it round to 160 or 170? 

ALI: 160 

TEACHER: Okay and we've got a secret 1. I want you to put your secret 1 up here for me.

TEACHER: Okay, so our estimate, it was 161, but $1.61 is pretty close to what, Ali? 

ALI: $1 and 60 cents. 

TEACHER: $1 and 60 cents, okay. You go to the store and your total comes to $1.61. You hand the cashier $2. I need you to write $2 down for me so you don't forget, okay? 

ALI: minus 2,0,0 

TEACHER: No, go down to the next line right now and write $2. 

ALI: Do I need to cursor over? 

TEACHER: You can move the cursor over, sure. 

ALI: Ah, dollar sign?
