LYNNE: The next characteristic we would like to talk about is distance viewing. This is very closely tied with complexity. The farther away something is from the eyes, the more visual targets are contained in the visual array. Here's the video of a student who compensates for this by holding something very close to her eyes to look at it even though she is not nearsighted. It's a strategy she has developed to effectively block out everything that is behind it, reducing the visual complexity and making visual attention on the target easier. We often see this with students who have CVI.
