From Brenda Lee to Everyone: yes From Kathi Garza to Everyone: Yes! From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: Yes COMS have a unique perspective. From Edgenie Bellah to Everyone: I agree! From Kaycee Bennett to Everyone: It's one of my fav parts of being in this field! From Sabrina McAdoo to Everyone: Agree! From Mary Siller to Everyone: Yes... From Mary Siller to Everyone: COMS have the federal focus for 0-3 focus in the ECI system in all 50 states? Right? We are lucky in TX...we have good laws for VI and COMS From Kathi Garza to Everyone: As TVIs, concept development is such a huge part of our work as well for early literacy development. It's nice to know we can partner with our COMS to share/repeat this work. From Kaycee Bennett to Everyone: I love this! Fitting right in to what the families are already doing. No need to add "extra" to their already busy lives! :) From Kate Borg (she/her) to Everyone: And this is so great to break this down for families. “Routines" can sound so intimidating, but this is something families are already doing! From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: Any movement the child can make to take their turn in a changing routine can build skills. From Kathi Garza to Everyone: YES! I love that for those families who might not be sure or might feel like they don't have time, it's already integrated, and just tiny additions can have a big impact! From Judy Alford to Host and Panelists: Potty time skills for toddlers very crucial From Lynne McAlister to Everyone: Playing by putting clothing on random body parts From Kathi Garza to Everyone: I think dressing skills can really help teach things like order and sequence and motor planning which are so helpful for future O&M activities. From Kaycee Bennett to Everyone: Mealtimes have that motivation, too! From Shay Utley to Everyone: We have helped a parent make a "corner" the living room that was just for her and her toys. From Mary "Hanna" Ausitn to Everyone: We have lots of snlw here in Alaska so we have used food coloring to define steps From Mary "Hanna" Ausitn to Everyone: snow From Mary "Hanna" Ausitn to Everyone: We have use rope to define a stopping spot on the gravel driveway to show a child where to stop From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: I have noticed that when children are able to move freely and are allowed to experiment, fall down, get bumps and such, confidence and resilience is built and replaces fearfulness. Has anyone else noticed that? From Kate Borg (she/her) to Everyone: And that's such an age appropriate thing! Yes! I've noticed that kiddos build confidence when they can just play From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: I hesitated to type that. From Tina Mekeel to Everyone: Kiddie pools work nice for a makeshift boundary. Plus itÕs fun to hide toys in with tissue paper or paper shreds. From Kate Borg (she/her) to Everyone: I'm glad you did Sara. I remember hearing a conversation between some family members that their other children had some bumps along the way, it was okay for their blind child as well. From Judy Alford to Host and Panelists: Help with navigating a school cafeteria. From Kaycee Bennett to Everyone: TodayÕs handout: https://tsbvi.live/coffeehour From Mary "Hanna" Ausitn to Everyone: Our OM has met me to introduce a cane to the family and transition from walkers and pop toys , hockey sticks to a cane. Even if its just for others to know that a child is hold a cane to communicate that they need more time or supports to others. From Sara Kitchen to Everyone: I love how you say we "get to start" working on instead of "have to". It is such a treat to introduce children to the world and watch them take it in. From Mary "Hanna" Ausitn to Everyone: meeting the family win the classroom prior to the other kids arriving on the first day From Kathi Garza to Everyone: Did you ever include soliciting assistance in a new environment and how kids can determine who to ask for help? From Mary "Hanna" Ausitn to Everyone: within the ECSE classroom From Sabrina McAdoo to Everyone: Trying to stay in communication with the family so they can reinforce the skills we are working on at school From Tina Mekeel to Host and Panelists: I love using these tactile symbols and maps to explain how we are also building literacy skills while doing all of the O&M beginning skills. Great way to bring in other team members to make their own symbols.
