Project Math Access DVD 01 - Early Childhood - Part 05 Transcript Start Audio Description: Part five, activities for teaching early number concepts. TEACHER: Alright, these are a few teacher-made materials that some of us in our program have come up with. And they're really for independent work. Some very basic is just sorting and you can put picture cards on here or you can put numbers and have the kids put that many numbers in the cup. Audio Description: The picture cards are attached to clothes pins, which are attached to the cups. TEACHER: We also have shapes, where the child finds the shape from the basket, and puts the coordinating shape on a file folder. So it‘s self-contained; it can go with the child. Especially if you're an itinerant or if you're moving from room to room within the school. And then we do a lot with sorting, and so we have our sorting tray and just a lot of different counters and different types of manipulatives that we use in sorting and counting. I have a couple computer programs here that some of our therapists have recommended for early Math and Language skills. The first is “Disney Learning", works on shapes, sorting shapes, as well as some directions; left and right. And then we have “Following Directions", that works on ordinal numbers, first and last, same and different. So, these are helpful for the child who's independent in computer skills.
