[Slide end:] Patty Obrzut: So, now you understand the emotional levels of children. You also understand the Five Phases of Educational Treatment. I will tell you that this is a really difficult subject to understand and master. It took me several times of hearing Dr. Nielsen explain the five phases of educational treatment, and really going off on my own and experimenting and playing with children. So, recognize you are going to make mistakes when you are playing with children. I can really advise you to get out your video cameras, videotape yourself playing with a child, and observe what you do wrong and just correct it. It's not a problem. Kids make mistakes. Adults make mistakes. But if you learn the phases and you understand that it's a fluid relationship; that you might use one or two phases at the same time with a child, but if you do so correctly, eventually you will build a trusting relationship with children. They will be able to learn greater social skills, and they will become independent learners.
