Welcome to the webinar that we're going to share some APH products with you. My name is Cecilia Robinson and I work here at TSBVI Outreach and with me is ... Carrie Ferraje: Carrie, also a AT consultant here at TSBVI outreach. Cecilia: So, I hope that you are having a good afternoon and ready to- to share some of your ideas with us as we go through the webinar today. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Topics Content: • APH website • New products • Product updates • Resources for teachers Description End: Here are a few topics that we're going to look at. We're going to look at APH website a little bit and then the new products, and some product updates, and resources for teachers. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Who are You? Content: Please write in Chat ... • TVI • COMS • Parent • Assistive T echnology Specialist • Administrator • Paraeducator • Related Services Staff • Other Description End: Before we begin, we would like to know who you are. So please write in the chat what you do and if you are not listed there, please feel free to tell us who you are and what you do in school. So go ahead and do that. We'll give you a few minutes to do that, maybe about a minute. Carrie: Yes, go ahead and enter if you are a TVI, if you are a COMS, a parent, assistive technology specialist, administrator or maybe just a teacher, other related services or paraeducator. Or something else. Cecilia: Yes, and family members please write yourselves in, too, we just want to know who you are, who we're talking to. [ Slide end: ] Carrie: So we have some VI and COMS on here, VI teachers. A Braille transcriber. Which is good. Cecilia: Very cool. Carrie: Vision rehab specialist, from Canada, awesome. Cecilia: Welcome. Carrie: Yeah. Then some more TVIs and COMS so far, quite a variety of people. Welcome. Cecilia: Yes, thank you. On the next slide, you will see that there is the APH website-- oh, by the way, you should have received a Word document with the same slide information in it. You are welcome to follow along and click along as I'm talking. Something that I want to share with you, even though we are highlighting some products, please know this is not a complete list of all of the new products and available products that APH has. We just are highlighting a few that we want to share with you. And then, also, as I am talking or Carrie is talking, please think about the students or the child that you are working with or the children that you are working with, because products are products. What you do with the product is more important. So be thinking about how the products may help you health student gain access to the general curriculum, as well as the Expanded Core Curriculum. And many of you are very creative. Just because later on I'll say something about this product may cover this area of the EEC, the Expanded Core Curriculum, I would love for all of you to to jump in and write in chat and share with us what other areas might the product cover in the EEC. Some of the TVIs that I work with, they are very creative. They find different ways to use the products, creatively, for their students. So collectively, you have a lot of talents here and we would love for you to share that with one another through chat. So with that said, I'm going to go to the website real quick and you are welcome to follow along if you have your own computer. [Computer screen start:] And this is the new website ... APH has a new website, so so if you want to search for any products, just click on the fields, the edit field, write in the product name. You can either press enter or click the search key to continue. So I'm going to just go over the few tabs on this web page, there is life with vision loss, when you put the mouse pointer there you see the sub-item. In educational resources, probably it will be something that most of the TVIs will be looking at. And then their accessibility solutions. When you click on it, it will tell you what APH does. I'm going to scroll down a little bit. But if I make you dizzy, please close your eyes. APH does a lot of accessible materials, like in Braille, tests, and audio and so on. So if you have any questions about where to find books and what does APH do, that's the way to get more information. And then under resources tab, there are also a lot of information. And then the the products, development and so on, is under R&D. And Louis is the Louis database, when you click on Louis you can find all kinds of materials that you need to know from from these databases. [Computer screen end:] So let me go back to the PowerPoint ... so basically, that's the new website. And when you have time, go ahead and spend some time on clicking around and just know where the resources are. Get yourself to become familiar with it. On the next slide, we highlighted a few new products. Again, these are not complete list of all of the products that APH has. I didn't have enough space to I was trying to squeeze everything into one slide, but I didn't have enough space. So I included some as pictures. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: New Products Content: Figure 1: Three pictures: Braille Datebook 2020, Tactile Doodle, and EZ Track Calendar 2020 • I-M-ABLE Kit • Tactile Five and Ten Frames • JAWS and ZoomText annual student license • KeyMath3 • Light Box and Mini-Lite Box • T opaz filters Description End: What you are seeing there at the top is the Braille date book 2020, then right below that is a picture of a tactile [indiscernible] and next to that is the EZ Track Calendar. There is the I M ABLE, Tactile Five and Ten Frames, JAWS and ZoomText annual student license, KeyMath3 and the Light Box and filters. [ Slide end: ] On the next slide, we will take a look at the Braille Datebook. Basically it's a planner and organizer and it comes with a calendar and it has pages that are already tabbed for you. The nice thing is, it comes in a binder. So everything will be together in one place for your students or for yourself if you want to use it. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Braille Datebook, 2020 Content: Figure 2 Picture of Braille Datebook 2020 • Planner and organizer • Calendar has tabbed pages • Comes with a binder • Additional filler papers and blank tabs are available for purchase • FQ eligible Description End: And the additional filler papers and the tabs are also available for purchase. If you want more of that. The nice thing is FQ eligible. That means it's federal quota eligible, which means that if your student is on the APH registration for being visually impaired, then they are eligible to acquire the products without costing anything to the district. It still costs some money, but the federal quota funds will cover some of that. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: TactileDoodle Content: • Drawing board for raised-line graphics • Can be used to support general education curriculum and Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) • Different when compared to Draftsman (e.g. stylus, appearance of tactile lines, etc.) • FQ eligible Description End: So let's go to the next slide and look at the TactileDoodle. That is a drawing board with raised line graphics and it can be used to support the general curriculum as well as the Expanded Core Curriculum. [ Slide end: ] It is a little bit different and there is more information on the website and it is also eligible for federal quota. So I'm going to take you to the website and let you take a look at the at the TactileDoodle real quickly. [Computer screen start:] This is a picture of the TactileDoodle and students can create their own graphics. As you know, it's important for students to be able to create their own tactile graphics as they are learning to read tactile graphics themselves and this is a nice tool for that. On this page, you will see some more information about the TactileDoodle and so on and then it also has a picture to show you how to take the plastic film off. If you want more information, you certainly can click on this link that says your students will love the TactileDoodle, so order it today. You can click on that to get more information. But I'm not going to go there and we'll go back to the PowerPoint slide. [Computer screen end:] So for the TactileDoodle, I think I already said it in the in the slide that it supports tactile graphics, reading of materials and so on. And the TactileDoodle probably will support other areas of the EEC as well. So if you want to go ahead and write down what areas of the EEC it supports, feel free to write it in chat and share your ideas. I think, just from looking at the TactileDoodle, I think it would support compensatory skills, maybe a little bit of assistive technology and sensory efficiency. Maybe it would support recreation and leisure for some of your students as well. If they are using the TactileDoodle to play around with their friends and communicate with family members and things like that, maybe it will support social interaction skills as well. I am seeing all of these Expanded Core Curriculum areas, according to what Texas has, in the nine areas that we use. However, if you are from out of state and certainly if you are from Canada, your Expanded Core Curriculum may have a different name, even though the areas may seem a little bit overlapping, too. So make sure that you write down for yourself either on paper or just share in chat what you think other areas of the EEC it may support so everybody can share their expertise in that way. So the next slide is going to be on the EZ Track calendar. This is a large print calendar, the minimum point size is about 18. It has four products in this series, it includes the address book, the calendar, the financial record keeper and the medical record keeper. And it is also available on federal quota. For this book, I know that a lot of the students probably using an electronic calendar; however, it boils down to what their personal preferences are. And some students may still prefer a hard copy and, if they do, this is a good calendar for them to have. So the EEC areas that it may support could include areas such as career education. They are taking responsibility on keeping track of what they need to do and this could be a skill that they continue to work on. But there certainly are other areas of the EEC that it will support as well. We will take a look at the I M ABLE Kit in the next slide. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: I-M-ABLE Kit Content: • Accompanies the I-M-ABLE book (print or electronic) • Supports braille learners who are struggling with letters and sounds • Includes teacher instruction booklet, training videos, games, stickers, etc.) • FQ eligible Description End: This is a companion to the I M ABLE book. If you have the book, this is the kit that will provide you with the materials that will allow you to use it in your instruction. This kit will support the Braille learners who are struggling with letters and sounds. And it will include the teacher instruction booklet as well. And there's some training videos and games and stickers as well. And it is also available on the federal quota fund system. [ Slide end: ] So for the EEC areas that it will support, probably the compensatory skills area, maybe a little bit of the sensory efficiency. It could be recreation and leisure, depending on how you are going to use the materials. Then it supports the core curriculum, such as reading and language arts as well. These are all of the areas that I can think of, but, again, if you can think of other areas that it may support, please feel free to write it in chat. And let me see, the print book is about $49.95. On the next slide, is the Jupiter. The Jupiter is the portable video magnifier. It has three camera modes, the reading, distance, and reading view and then also the self view. It is available on quota funds. You have the web link there, but let me go ahead and take you to the website. This is the Jupiter portable magnifier. [Computer screen start:] Oh, I just saw that they are out of stock right now. Probably a lot of you knew that. It's been recently put on federal quota funds system, so if it is out of stock, you certainly can submit an order and and they will put you on the wait list for another one. But as you can tell, there are little pictures to show you what it can do. And it is very portable and, if you scroll down, you will be able to find more information about what it can do. And, by the way, for each of these product pages, I'm going to scroll down a little bit, there is actually more information. So make sure that you scroll down and read what the features are that APH is selling with you I mean telling you about and you can click on any of those to get more information. So let me scroll back up ... all right. I'm going back to the slide. And that's about the Jupiter. So [Computer screen end:] Carrie: There is comment that says from Dawn Adams, says it looks like it may be similar to the Visio book that was so popular. Is that similar to the Visio Book. Cecilia: Seems like it has features that are similar to the VisioBook, especially when it comes to the distance viewing and close viewing, which is the reading mode. And the way it I actually have not touched one an seen one myself yet. So I want to say it has some very similar features, but I'm not sure if they are exactly the same. Probably, I think, Dawn is right that it looks very similar to the VisioBook, the old VisioBook. So if your student is needing one, make sure that you look up more information and then think about whether it's something you want to request as well. We will go to the next slide, which is ... other new products. APH has the Feel 'n Peel Stickers with the UEB Braille and print numbers. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Other New Products Content: • Feel 'n Peel Stickers: UEB Braille/Print Numbers o https://www.aph.org/product/feel-n-peel-stickers-ueb-braille-print-numbers-0-100/ • Illinois Braille Series Book 2 o Available in contracted braille and print o For adults and former print readers Description End: When you click on those website, you will be able to see more information what it offers. It has a lot of of numbers and stickers for you to use or for you to share with the classroom teachers. So that they can use it with their student. The next item on this slide is the Illinois Braille series book 2. This is fairly new. It's available in contracted Braille and print. If you go to the APH page, and you write in Illinois Braille Series Book 2, it will pull up some information for you. [ Slide end: ] One comment is that this is for adults and former print readers only. So if you are thinking about using it for school aged children, you might want to check out the content to make sure that this is something that you want to order. Okay? On the next slide is JAWS and ZoomText. The new information about JAWS and ZoomText is the annual student license being available. The JAWS is $90 and you have the product number, which is the SKU, I think that's what they listed on their website. But you can click on that link to get to more information. And the same with ZoomText. And the licenses will be registered to each email address. And then the for TVIs and also for district administrators, you can manage the licenses using the software license portal as well. A word about the JAWS and ZoomText, APH is still offering the JAWS, ZoomText, magic, that suite. I think that I listed it later in the slides, but just so you know, that's still available. But you but the individual licenses is something fairly new. So you might want to [Background noise, echoing] so you might want to take a look at the information from that web link. Okay? And, again, I as I'm talking about these these products, make sure you know that they support access to the general curriculum as well as the EEC. And so EEC, this is fairly straightforward. It's probably going to support assistive technology, compensatory skills, sensory efficiency and other areas that you can think of. Let me see if I forget anything ... so anyway, the again, the SKU number is listed on there. It's a little bit different from the combo suites with all three software. The next slide is the- the next slide is KeyMath, I flipped too fast on my notes. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: KeyMath3 Content: • Assessment for Pre-K to 9th grade • Student Kits: o Contracted and uncontracted braille (UEB, Nemeth) o Large print • Publisher materials are necessary for administration of large print edition; contact Pearson Clinical Assessment 800.627.7271 Description End: KeyMath is the assessment for Pre K to ninth grade. It has student kits in contracted and uncontracted Braille, both in Nemeth and also in UEB math and then it also has a large print version. Please know that the publisher materials are necessary for the large print edition and you can contact Pearson for more information. Also, it's not on the slide, you might want to take a note at the teacher edition. [ Slide end: ] This is $209, when you go on the website and look up KeyMath3, it will have the teacher edition information. The teacher edition information is really for the Braille administration and the teacher materials are provided in print only. They are not in Braille. So make sure you write a note about the teacher edition for KeyMath3. I didn't put it in the slide and but if you go to the website, you can find out more information about this. So let me go on to the website and show you a little bit about what I mean. [Computer screen start:] This is the teacher edition and some of the information that I told you, when you scroll down, you will find the same information on here. And this one, the teacher edition, is $209, but the material is in print. They are not in Braille. [Computer screen end:] Okay. Let me switch back to the slide. We're going to take a look at the Topaz filters on the next slide. These are UltraLens Topaz lenses and they reduce glare. They filter indoor and outdoor blue lights and they are available for adults, for youngsters, as well as for infants. So let me go to the site and show you what they look like. Please bear with me when I switch to the next page. So these are the Topaz lenses, the filters. [Computer screen start:] And I remember that this is the one that you can just clip on. I think the red one, this one is for the little guys, it's for infants and the big one, this one, is for the adults and this is the junior size. So you can see that these are kind of like they can clip on or they can wear it if they need to. [Computer screen end:] So going back to the slide. Again, this is probably available I'm sorry. This is to support areas such as O&M, and then also inside when students are sitting in the classroom, and they need to look at materials, maybe this is something that will help them to gain better visual access to the materials and to the print information. So please feel free to share what other areas of the EEC that the Topaz filters may support. On the next slide, some product updates, the Light Box and the Mini Lite Box are going to come with LED bulbs. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Product Updates Content: Light Box and Mini-Lite Box o LED bulb o Lithium batteries o Mini-Lite Box will be renamed: LED Mini-Lite Box o All materials and overlays will fit updated light boxes Description End: The LED bulbs are going to give you longer battery life and then, also, it provides the lithium batteries and by the way, the Mini Lite Box will be renamed to the LED Mini Lite Box. And then the materials and the overlays will fit awful the Light Boxes, so you will be probably able to use some of the old materials for the new Light Boxes. [ Slide end: ] And the Light Boxes probably will support a lot of the EEC areas, including sensory efficiency. It may be assistive technology for some of your students. And then other areas that the EEC, I mean, the Light Boxes may support, feel free to write it in the chat field for us. And continuing on, the product updates, the next one is the MATT Connect. A lot of you may have attended the APH session on the MATT Connect showing the new features and one of the new features is the Desmos graphing calculator. It's actually pretty cool. If you have a student with low vision, who needs to use a graphing calculator, you might want to look at the graphing calculator that comes with the MATT Connect and also the notes app and the gallery management so now you have all of those options available from the MATT Connect all in one. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Product Updates Content: • MATT Connect: Desmos graphing calculator, Notes app, Gallery management o Click https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hxvl-AYHqY for an introduction to the Desmos calculator • BrailleBlaster o Click https://www.aph.org/product/brailleblaster/ for additional information Description End: And you can click on that YouTube to watch some of the introductions to the Desmos calculator. The next item on that slide is the BrailleBlaster. If you want to click on that, it will show you more additional information about this open source Braille translator. It is free. So if you need a quick way to translate print materials to Braille, you might want to take a look at how it works. [ Slide end: ] And later on, in another slide, I have referenced a video for you to look at. And you can use that as well. The next product update is the functional skills assessment. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Product Updates Content: • Functional Skills Assessment: o Free, downloadable braille manuals at https://sites.aph.org/manuals/; o Online scorebooks at https://funcsk.aphtech.org/ • Sensory Learning Kit: o New routine video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N95JzkkhB_c • Early Braille Trade Books: o Rigby Nonfiction Kit 3 at https://www.aph.org/product/early-braille-trade-books- rigby-nonfiction-kit-3-ueb-uncontracted/ Description End: And you have a link there to go to the manuals and look at more information about the score books and so on. The Sensory Learning Kit has a new video on the routines and you can click the link to watch the new video. And then the early Braille trade books, the kits, the non fiction Kit 3, you can get a more information on that as well. So feel free to click along and get more information as we are talking. [ Slide end: ] The next item on product updates, actually, following product updates is APH Press. This is the new health education book. You can click that web link to get a little bit more information on what this book may cover. The main thing to remember is that this book is really for teachers to use. And you can take a look at what it offers. It's available for $89, but I don't think is federal quota eligible. So you can still purchase it by paying APH. And the EEC area that it probably will support will be independent living skills, but there might be other areas that you can think of that this book may support. And this book is new. Next on APH Press is the partners in O&M book. Supporting O&M for students who are visually impaired. When you click on that web link, you will get more information about that book. This book I don't think is federal quota eligible and is for $64.95 for sale. The next book is Cortical Visual Impairment, the Advanced Principles. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: APH Press Content: • Partners in O&M: Supporting Orientation and Mobility for Students Who Are Visually Impaired o https://www.aph.org/product/partners-in-om-supporting-orientation-and-mobility- for-students-who-are-visually-impaired/ • Cortical Visual Impairment: Advanced Principles o https://www.aph.org/product/cortical-visual-impairment/ Description End: This book is really a companion book to the Cortical Visual Impairment book that many of you may already have a copy. And the price for this is $64.95. And I don't think this book is federal quota eligible. Because on the website, I didn't see FQ eligible. Which means you can still purchase it, but it's not available on quota funds. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: APH Press Content: Coming soon: o Babies with CVI: Nurturing Visual Abilities and Development in Early Childhood o Foundations of Vision Rehabilitation Therapy o Assistive Technology for Students Who are Blind or Visually Impaired: A Guide to Assessment, Second Edition Description End: Then coming soon, on the next slide, from APH Press are three titles: The first one is babies with CVI, nurturing visual abilities and development in early childhood. The next one is foundations of vision rehabilitation therapy. The third book is the Assistive Technology For Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired: A Guide to Assessment. And it's the second edition. [ Slide end: ] Many of you may still have the first edition and hang on to that, because that book has a lot of good information that you can still use as you are considering assessments for your students. So ... let's let me see. Are there any questions or comments from chat, Carrie? Carrie: Yes. There is one question. About does anybody know if you can find cassettes for the Joy Player? Maybe additional cassettes for the Joy Player? I don't know about that. Cecilia: I am not sure Carrie: If anybody out there knows, go ahead and put it in chat. The Joy Player comes with a certain amount of cassettes initially. Cecilia: Correct. Carrie: We may have to research that and get back to you on that one. That's that's the only question so far. Cecilia: Yeah, we certainly can send out some updates, let me write myself a note. So the cassettes for the Joy Player. We can we can find out more information about that. And then send it back to you. Are there any comments or or questions from the audience? Carrie: No more questions right now. Cecilia: Okay. Let's continue with APH materials actually, the next one you can go to to tactile vision graphics to take a look at the Braille calipers and let me see, the Braille caliper, I think, is for you can you can certainly take a look at how much it is. From that website. I don't think it's awfully expensive. But take a look at that. It supports math and it has Braille and everything and it's pretty cool. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Other Products Content: • Braille calipers o https://tactilevisiongraphics.com/product-category/braille-calipers/ • Braille Buzz o https://www.aph.org/product/braille-buzz/ • Braille T ales o https://www.aph.org/kids-with-vision-loss/braille-tales/ Description End: And then the next one is the Braille Buzz. And we have one on the table. I don't know if you can see it. [ Slide end: ] Carrie is going to hold it up. The Braille Buzz is this one. This product that Carrie is showing you. This one is federal quota eligible and it's for $99 and it's kind of fun. I showed it to teachers and teachers who were coming up with ways that that support learning of Braille, also kind of learning to use assistive technology, it's right there. They can write Braille, they can listen to the words of each alphabet and it will also give them some phonetic feedback on the letter and it's just kind of a fun thing to to use. So at one meeting, some at least one teacher was telling me that they are using it for instruction in addition to letting the child play with it when when the child has a little bit of free time. But the teacher said she uses it mainly for instruction and then after she gave a little bit of instruction on how to use it, then she let's the child explore it as well and that's the Braille Buzz. We have one quick question. Do you know the price of the I M ABLE Kit? Cecilia: The I M ABLE Kit is This is the book right here. Cecilia: Yes. The I M ABLE Kit, I think, is hang on, let me go back to that. And see if I wrote the price down. I think it's a few hundred dollars. The book is $44.95. I think the kit is a little bit more expensive. But it is available on federal quota. So if you want to take a look at the kit, the book does come with the kit and it has a lot of materials that are already provided to help you use it when you are using it for your instruction. And I I know it's fairly it's not inexpensive, but click on it and take a look at it. Dawn says it's 495. Cecilia: Thank you, Dawn, it is 495. So it is available on quota funds and go ahead and get one, even if you need to share it with another VI teacher, I think it's worth your time taking a look at it so you don't have to go out and find other materials to use a reading method for your student. Going back to the slide, the next one is Braille Tales. This one is, if you click on the website, it will provide you with more information. What is cool about Braille Tales it will provide you with six free books a year for your students. For your new Braille learners and for the family members to gain access to books to help the student to learn Braille, I think this is a good subscription and application to look into. You do need to submit an application in order to to get Braille Tales. I highly recommend that you have Braille learners to take a look at that. [ Slide start: ] repeat previous slide Going on to the next slide is the Braille Trail Reader LE. Some of you may already have that. We have one that we can show you and Carrie is going to hold it up to show it to you. It's a 12 cell Braille display. [ Slide end: ] And it works with the most of your devices and your mobile devices, so so you might want to take a look at it and see if it is applicable to support some of the your new Braille learners or other ways to use the Braille display. And this one is $995. The next item on your slide is the Code Jumper. It's a video to show you. It's actually more information on what the Code Jumper news is and then also there is a video to show you a little bit more about the how students are using the Code Jumper. It's pretty cool. You might want to check it out. The next book is the CVI Book Builder Kit. This book I mean this kit, sorry, is federal quota eligible and is about $279. So take a look at that. I have not really had a chance to order one to see what it does. But you certainly can click on the website to find out more information about that. So before we go on, are there any comments or questions? Carrie: Yeah. There is an answer about the Joy Player and the cartridges from Debbie Pierce. She says that individuals can access music and audio books by playing WAV or MP3 files that are copied on to SD cards, USB flash drives and digital talking book cartridges. It also says the Digital Talking Book cartridges are available for purchase from APH. Cecilia: Great, thank you for that comment. I appreciate you all helping one another, really, really appreciate that. All right. Let's go to the next slide. Again, these other products are just products that we think you might want to know about. Some of them might not be that new. Just know that resources, products for you to consider. The next one on there is the Laptime and Lullabies. If you click on that, you will find more information about it. This one is also federal quota eligible and it's about $119. Next one is new is the Ledge Kit for the Light Boxes, you can take a look at what is new from there. The Orbit Reader 20 is not that new. Carrie is going to show you the Orbit Reader 20. Yeah. It was not available for a little bit and now that is on the APH quota funds system again. So the Orbit Reader 20 is back on the quota fund system. So make sure that you take a look at that as well, if your student is needing a Braille device. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Other Products Content: • O&M Trivia o https://www.aph.org/product/o-m-trivia-2/ • O&M Family Booklet Software o https://www.aph.org/product/om-family-booklet-software-digital-download/ • Orbit Reader 20 o https://www.aph.org/product/orbit-reader-20/ Description End: Next slide are some O&M products. The O&M Trivia, there is a web link to show you what it is and and you might want to take a look at it if you are a certified O&M specialist. [ Slide end: ] The O&M Family Booklet Software. Again, this one I did not download it to take a look at it and I'm not a certified O&M specialist, so I can't tell you how useful it is. However, please share this information with your O&M specialists and let them know that this is available. And I know that in my experience, anything that you can share with families regarding O&M and how to help their child to gain skills in this area, they will really, really like it. And then the Orbit Reader is just something that is a repeat, so you can cross that out because we have already seen the Orbit Reader from the other slide. The next product is the Tactile Town. Many of you are already familiar with it. It has a lot of parts and it has a lot of materials to help you teach the concept of O&M. It's pretty cool. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Other Products Content: • Tactile Town: 3-D O&M Kit o https://www.aph.org/product/tactile-town-3-d-om-kit-note-has-numerous- replacement-parts/ • Video Mag HD o https://www.aph.org/product/video-mag-hd/ Description End: And we usually show this at meetings as well. So Tactile Town is something for your COMS to consider. The last item on that slide is the Video Mag HD. It's a hand held video magnifier and if you want to take a look at it, click on that website and get more information. It's a hand held device. So know that hand held device, usually the usage is a little bit different when it comes to supporting the general access to the curriculum or the EEC. [ Slide end: ] So make sure that you write down a few things to remind yourself as well. The next two slides actually we'll be talking about a few unavailable products. Some of the products I don't think many of you have been using it, like the Brown slate and stylus. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Unavailable Products Content: • Beginner's Writing Paper with Alphabet • Brown slate and stylus • Orion talking calculators, including the talking graphing calculator • Parent Early Childhood Education Series, Parent-Caregiver, Loose Leaf Print • State Maps Collection: Northeast Region • Stokes Place Holder Description End: I don't think that I have seen people using it in the last couple of years. The big item that's not going to be available is the talking graphing calculator. APH is no longer going to have that on their website or have that be available. So just know that this item is going away. And then the rest of the items on that slide have to do with the parent early childhood education series, the state maps collection for the northeast region and then the Stokes placeholder. Which I don't think many of you use that, but I used that when I was teaching and my students really like it. So I'm a little sad about seeing the placeholder going away. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Unavailable Products Content: • Wilson Reading System Student Reader • EZEECOUNT Abacus w/ Print Guidebook • Rolling Right Along Construction Kit • Teacher's Booklet, Print, Hundreds Board Will your students need other alternative tools? Description End: On the next slide is the Wilson Reading System, the Student Reader is going away, as well as the EZEECOUNT abacus and the print guide book. The Rolling Right Along construction kit is not available anymore. And the teacher booklet for the Hundreds board and so on. [ Slide end: ] So with all of these materials going away, will your students need other alternative tools? So I want you to just kind of take a quick look at the materials on your paper copy. Maybe if you want to write a few things in chat, share with us will your students be needing alternative tools? Like I know that in Texas, some of the teachers were asking about the Desmos calculators. Does that mean that all of our students will be going to use the Desmos calculators? And then I was wondering, you know, what about other states and other countries as well, like Canada, will you be thinking about using other tools to help your students and what might those tools be? Carrie: We don't have any other comments right now. Cecilia: No comments? Okay. Everybody is kind of silent. That's okay. Because it was a shocker to some of us when we saw that the graphing calculator was not going to be available. But we got over that. Sort of. I want to say sort of. It will take time for us to get over the shock. So continuing right along, there are a few teacher resources that I want to share with you and these are not new. However, I do think that as TVIs sometimes you're being asked about large print and I do think that sometimes for some of our low vision students, they may not be provided with the most appropriate print materials in hard copy format. Sometimes the print may be too difficult to read. And then when that happens, if your student happens to be receiving a lot of hard copy materials, from from the classroom teachers, then a way to help your staff at the campus understand what's going on is to show them the APH guidelines for the print document design is actually actually very easy to read and if you click on that web link. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Large Print Content: • APH Guidelines for Print Document Design o https://www.aph.org/aph-guidelines-for-print-document-design/ • APHont o https://www.fontspace.com/aph-products/aphont Description End: I will share the web or share the web link with your classroom teachers, they may be able to understand why the print information has to be printed in a way that will facilitate access and not creating more barriers for the student with low vision. And then the other item on that slide is the APHont. Download it and put it in your font library so when you click on Word, the APHont will become one of the fonts that is available in the font library. [ Slide end: ] A word about APHonts, the most prominent difference that you can see about APHont is when you print the materials on to hard copy. You can print APHonts the same size, compare it with other Microsoft fonts, and get a feel for how different APHont is. And play around with that and see if it helps your students to have better access to print materials, if you use APHont. On the next slide is accessible media guidelines. Again, it's a resource for teachers. APH has an accessibility hub and the web link is there. They have a list of checklists for applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Messaging, Outlook and so on and PDF resources. So let me take you to the website and let you take a look at it. And please bear with me as I go to that website. I think that I clicked myself out. Anyway if you go to the APH website, you can access it through the accessibility solutions. [Computer screen start:] But if you if you type in accessible I hope it works, accessible media guidelines, and then either press enter or click search, it should take you to more information about accessible guidelines. Well, actually, it's better if you click on that website and go to that. [Computer screen end:] [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Accessible Media Guidelines Content: • APH Accessibility Hub o https://aphaccessibility.com/ o Checklist for applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. o Includes PDF resources Description End: So I'm not going to click on that for the sake of time, but you're welcome to take a look at that. And make sure that you put your mouse pointer under the checklist and click, so that it will take you to more information about the accessibility for the application that you want more information on. [ Slide end: ] Especially PDF resources. I think in public schools we use a lot of PDF documents, but sometimes not all PDF documents are created equally, so you might want to share with your classroom or campus staff about PDF resources, how to make it accessible. So we'll go to the next slide and look at media provider. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Accessible Media Provider Content: • APH provides accessible educational materials o Braille o Large print o Digital o https://www.aph.org/educational-resources/accessible-textbooks/ Description End: APH is an accessible media provider and they provide a lot of instructional materials in Braille, large print and also digital formats. So make sure that you click on that web link and take a look at what APH has to offer if those areas. [ Slide end: ] And then APH also provides accessible test materials and you can, again, access more information about clicking on those web links. And I included the intelligence testing of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. As a TVI functioning in the public school, a lot of times you might have to answer questions like what are some of the things that I need to remember when I when we do assessments on your student with visual impairments? You might get a lot of those questions from diags and assessment personnel. So that website has a lot of great information on intelligence testing and the web information is right there if you click on the link. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Braille Math Tutorials Content: • Nemeth Tutorial o https://nemeth.aphtech.org/ • UEB Math Tutorial o https://uebmath.aphtech.org/ Description End: And then there are math tutorials and if you click on the math tutorial websites that APH offers, it actually offers you two tutor tomorrows, the Nemeth tutorial and the UEB math tutorial. So let me take you to that website and it is right here. [ Slide end: ] [Computer screen start:] So you will click on this web page and then make sure you look at practice problems and so on and then all the way to the right side is switch to Nemeth tutorial. What you are seeing is the UEB math tutorial. So when you click on the Nemeth tutorial, it will take you back to Nemeth tutorial. So it's pretty user friendly and it has great information if you want to take a look at what you might want to use in your instruction of Braille math. [Computer screen end:] The next slide is on tactile graphics. I'm not going to click on those web links but it will take you to YouTube videos about tactile graphics. APH has a tactile graphics TV that helps you understand when you have to create tactile graphics, what do you need to do? They have a list of short videos. It's actually very user friendly. And you can click on that and take a look at, from start to finish, what are some of the things that you need to remember as you are creating tactile graphics. And then BrailleBlaster which was mentioned earlier in the webinar, you can click on that web link and get more information on watching a video on what BrailleBlaster is all about. The next slide is on orientation and mobility. There is the nearby explorer and indoor explorer, again, those are videos. The BrailleBlaster is right there. I repeated myself. So anyway take a look at those videos. Also a word about what I did not include in the APH products, you might want to write it down. APH also has a number of apps that they have provided. Some are paid apps; some are eligible for federal quota funds. So make sure that you check out the APH apps as well. And then now that you have looked at all of these materials and there are tons more materials on the APH website. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: How many APH products support my students’ learning? Content: Figure 3 Three pictures: a question mark; an opened window showing blue sky and green hills; "knowledge is power" with little boy riasing two arms with muscles Description End: So, the main question is, again, going back to a comment that I made earlier, how are the products going to support my students' learning? And the students' learning include the access to the general education curricular materials as well as gaining skills in the Expanded Core Curriculum. So depending on how many areas your state has for the EEC, every area probably you should be looking at, for all of these products and go ahead and and be cognizant of like what else can it support. [ Slide end: ] Be creative, because after all, all that we are doing is showing you the products. But being creative and individualizing is something that you and your team may want to think about. So are there any comments or questions about anything that we have shown you? Carrie: There is just a comment about the Nemeth tutorial and, you know just a lot of different products out there. So just keep in mind that you need to individualize it for your students and we're not the judge of whether or not a product is good or bad. Cecilia: Right. Carrie: It's all based on individual needs and what it can do for the student. But there is a lot of a lot of stuff out there for Cecilia: Right. Carrie: For the students to be able to use to access. Cecilia: The tutorials are good because when you need the information and you need it right there, you can click on it and then select the topics that you want. It's really the just in time learning for you, before you have to teach it. I'm not sure if any of the teachers actually use those tutorials for their instruction of the code for their students. That's the part that I'm not sure about. But I know that in previous trainings, I have used some of the tutorials when we are training new teachers who are just landing in the field of visual impairments and we use it to to let our teachers know that this is something that they can use when they need it. Are there any other comments? Or questions? Carrie: Not really, should we address the the high cost items? Cecilia: Go ahead. Carrie: I was just going to say if you are from Texas and you are requesting the high cost items, then those need to through our website you need to request approval for those high cost items. So for things such as the MATT Connect, smart Brailler, Jupiter, that's the new one, yeah, Jupiter, since those are high cost, then you will have to get approval from us to be able to purchase those as well. So just keep that in mind for your high cost items. Cecilia: Right. [Computer screen start:] And then we have a few upcoming trainings and I'm going to go to the website to show you very quickly, if you want to find out more information about our trainings, when you come to the TSBVI website, make sure that you click on the outreach, technical assistance tab. And then on the left side, the easiest is for you to find what we are offering is click on TSBVI training, and underneath that you can click on webinar listing, workshop and conferences for more information. And then for those of you who are in Texas, you can click on APH materials and find out more about how you can request APH materials through the materials center. Let me go back to the slides. [Computer screen end:] So those are the the three upcoming webinars and more trainings upcoming. And in your handout, I believe that I put in the in the URL to each training website as well. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Upcoming Events Content: • Braille Boot Camp: January 7-10, 2020, TSBVI, Austin, TX • Consideration of Assistive Technology for Young Braille Learners Webinar: February 4, 2020 • Texas Focus Conference: February 27-29, 2020 Houston, TX Description End: So make sure that you let us know if you have more questions about any of the trainings that we offer. Or if you have any questions about what we said today or about the APH products. Are there any more questions or comments from the audience? [ Slide end: ] Carrie: Deb says great info, thank you from Canada. Cecilia: Oh, wow, thank you so much. So we only have about three minutes left. So if there are no more questions, I want to say thank you very much for joining us today. And, also, thank you so much for contributing to the chats. And we will if you have any more questions, feel free to email us and and we will be able to find out more information for you and send it back to you. So thank you, everybody. And have a great afternoon. Carrie: Bye. Thanks. [ Slide start: ] Description Start: Title: Thank you for joining us! Description End: [ Slide end: ]
