Project Math Access DVD 04 - Graphing Part 2- Part 04 Transcript Start Audio Description: Part four; AGC, solving a calculus problem. KAPPERMAN: Rob, what we‘d like to do now is to do a very simple calculus problem and I want you to illustrate how you would handle the derivative of a parabola. So would you just show us the steps that you would do? ROB: Sure, so right now we're working on the parabola “X squared" like we were earlier in my demonstration. To plot the derivative, it's pretty simple, I'm just going to browse over to the “plot tab page" to change a setting for derivative. AGC: [calculator, source, plot data set one] ROB: And right now my source is “data set one", that‘s fine. AGC: [plot data derivative clear] ROB: So plotting the data derivative is clear. I'll check it or review it I guess, it's now saying the derivative is checked. If I return to “data set one." AGC: [expression one, x exponent 2] ROB: just hit “enter“ to plot that. [two beeps] And for the sighted folks, you‘ll see now I have a straight line of ‘‘2x'‘ across the screen. And if I want to emboss this now I could emboss this just like I did earlier to the Tiger. Now it will emboss the straight line that we see on the screen and I can compare that with the earlier value and get a feel for what the physical behavior of the derivative is. KAPPERMAN: Would you do that? ROB: Sure, no problem. KAPPERMAN: Tell us what you are doing. AGC: [HP Deskjet 3320 Series] ROB: Sure, Ijust hit “control P" to go to print AGC: [printers list, HP Deskjet 3320 Series] ROB: and I'm just going to select my Max from the printer list, these are all the printers that Windows has. (two beeps) So I'm just doing some page orientation AGC: [portrait mode, plot height] ROB: and I'm just doing some things to fit it to my page, AGC: plot height 9] ROB: that‘s a little too high. And another thing I can do is I can change my font from a print font for a ink printer to a braille font and use computer braille, so I'm just going to do that here. AGC: [print font size list, 12] ROB: And then I'll print it off. AGC: [print expression one, x exponent 2] ROB: And that‘s it.
