[00:00:04.946] Brandon was born prematurely and developed retinopathy [00:00:07.706] of prematurity, or ROP. [00:00:10.556] Sometime between the most recent functional vision evaluation [00:00:13.616] and the last eye doctor visit, [00:00:15.966] the retina in his right eye became completely detached. [00:00:19.476] A recent low vision evaluation reported Brandon had no light [00:00:23.476] perception in his right eye, and he had form perception [00:00:27.276] in the left and that his field was restricted to 40 degrees. [00:00:32.006] Brandon's eye report also identified right esotropia [00:00:34.876] and optic atrophy. [00:00:37.256] These ocular conditions may have a large impact [00:00:39.966] on Brandon's ability to take in visual information [00:00:43.136] and get the experience needed [00:00:44.946] to resolve some CVI characteristics. [00:00:47.666] >>Lynne: Along with the ocular visual impairment caused [00:00:52.386] by damage to his retina, Brandon also has a history [00:00:55.576] of having a closed head injury, which is one of those red flags [00:00:59.416] when thinking about visual behaviors a person might have [00:01:02.476] due to neurological differences or changes. [00:01:05.916] >>Lynne: Some other information about Brandon you might want [00:01:07.916] to know is that he uses an object calendar [00:01:10.346] to communicate receptively, has cerebral palsy which affects all [00:01:14.456] of his limbs, uses a wheelchair to move from one place [00:01:17.756] to another, and he has a seizure disorder [00:01:20.846] which is well controlled. [00:01:23.476] >>Sara: Socially, Brandon is super active. [00:01:25.746] He really enjoys verbal and sound related interactions [00:01:28.566] with other people, especially when they make funny noises [00:01:31.326] or talk in silly voices. [00:01:33.506] He engages others in this sort of interaction regularly, [00:01:36.266] and initiates it by greeting them or by laughing [00:01:39.486] and turning his head toward them. [00:01:41.446] He makes specific requests [00:01:43.796] by verbalizing stuff like "Hug," or "Eat." [00:01:47.766] [00:01:49.030]
